The Branch has approximately 80 student and professional members working in New Zealand hospitals, universities, companies, as private contractors and government organisations. This incorporated society was established to promote physics and engineering applied to medicine and to represent the needs and interests of the engineering and physical sciences in the provision or advancement of healthcare.
Nine members currently serve on the branch committee, whilst the Branch also has five spokespeople who act as national representatives on behalf of the Branch. The six designated clinical specialities are: Radiology Physics, Radiation Oncology Physics, Nuclear Medicine, Bioengineering (currently vacant), Radiation Protection and University.
A two-day annual conference (NZPEM) held on a rotational basis in either Auckland, Hamilton, Palmerston North, Wellington, Christchurch or Dunedin. Details of the next conference can be found at https://nzpem.org.nz.

Establishment of a sub-committee to promote medical physics in New Zealand at Medical Physics Day each year
The branch offers two annual NZ Branch Conference Grants to attend NZPEM, covering conference registration and travel and expenses up to $500.
The branch has a Cultural Safety Sub-committee, set up in 2023 to help the ACPSEM NZ Branch and its members to support equity and meet our Te Tiriti obligations, with an overview of the work outlined in a (currently draft) document The ACPSEM NZ Branch Te Tirity o Waitangi Framework for Aotearoa, New Zealand, available here.
